Pick Up: Act Two "Taste of Snow"

Much love everyone who beta'd the animation in August. <3

+++++++++++++++++++++++++
IMPROVEMENTS
+++++++++++++++++++++++++

+There is considerably less lag. Anyone with at least 1 GB of memory shouldn't experience any significant lagging at all.
+Many movie clips blurs have been reduced to lower qualities, replaced with .png images, or removed altogether.
+Frost has been added to the sides of the train.
+Subtitle spelling errors and mismatches have been fixed

There's also been revamping of the audio:

+A more consistent Wind SFX loop has been added to all outside scenes
+A Train SFX loop has been added so that you can hear the train even when the camera is inside a cabin
+Additional Train SFX have been added for authenticity and atmosphere
+Lunacatz has provided updated lines for Hickory with greater enthusiasm
+Trisha's "What are you, Forty?" has been amplified so that it's easier to hear.

Additionally, a Taste of Snow Extras file will be uploaded shortly, which will be where the Pick Up: Extras link will lead to. This will allow me to update the Extras much more easily than the entire Pick Up: Act Two .fla file. The link should be fixed by tomorrow. As well as one last issue I have with a SFX vs. VA conflict in the very beginning of the animation.

But after that--I'm done and moving on to something else. This animation won't ever be perfect, there will always be little things that get to me, which I will accept as part of the learning experience. The real goal is to always improve with my next project, which I hope you guys will stick with me in order to see in the future.

I really loved this the first time I saw it on Newgrounds, but I had then lost track of it and couldn't find any of your work (mostly cuz I forgot the name =3=). Amazing as always, and asthma always seems to interrupt right as someone is busy being badass...

Thats about the best flash I've seen in my life! Poor Hickory! Her ego was propped up in the last act, but Snow shot it down with her monstrous lazer sword...thingy! Snow's the coolest character ever, but she has some weird hang up about dramatic entrances!

You did good, Skaijo! Everything I See from you (Pick Up, Yotsuba, Campus Shorts) I fall in love with because of your art style.

The animation in Pick Up: Act Two is SO much more fluid than the first. I cannot WAIT until the Third Act. It's just about time I saved my sister, wouldn't you say? Haha.

On a related note, have you submitted to NG yet?

do you want critique while your working on the animations or when they're on ver 1.0 or w/e
Because i think it would be neat to see story boards :D
But IMO this one is done :P

I usually don't make storyboards, or at least, when I flash, I find it much easier to plan out a particular scene with sticks, and then animate over the sticks, deleting the stick roughs along the way.

xD i don't think that you're random stuff could be "planned" therefore i assumed that you weren't in the habit and had evolved past story boarding. Into mind boarding.

This is beyond awesome. I've been waiting forever for the completion of this. There's a bit of disappointment because I was looking foreward to an overall conclusion, but this was just as great. Looks to me as if snow is the new Hickory, heartless b**** I loved it. Awesome job.

Can't put an end to things yet. The first Act was just the subplot. Act two begins the real meat and potatoes of the story. >_< I'm really glad you liked it--and my apologies for making you wait so long.

I defragged the sample file you gave me and the particles file UL'd on NG) and actually learned how to do particle effects but came to the same determination as you and found out that much fancy AS is needed in order track symbols on the stage. So I decided to go without--but I woudln't have been able to do all that and learn so much without your help. Plus, it's the thought that counts. <3

Thank you for the kind words and understanding, Davey. My next animation is already turning out just the way I like it. There's no SFX or VAing, which means I can spend more time on the art and actually forever finish a scene once I move on to the next.

NO WAY--at least not for a time coming. As much as I love the style for pick up, the format bores me. I want to animate something where when I'm done with a scene, I'm that close to finishing an animation. I'm stepping away from SFX and VAing now. It's really complicated and really extends the time of production. Even Metal Gear Yotsuba took nearly 4 months.

I am interested in knowing what kind of computer your (memory) your running with. Also, and I know this is much for me to ask, but does the same lag persist when you switch the quality to low? There's an option to adjust the quality settings on the first frame of the animation after the animation finishes loading. It's near the bottom.

I put the quality to low and it was still a tiny bit laggy.

I'm running with a Windows XP made by eMachines. The memory it says on the side of it is a 60 GB Hard Drive with a 256 MB DDR 50RAM.

I didn't try putting the quality to low, so that must've been it.

:iconskaijo:
Skaijo Featured By Owner Sep 26, 2007
I think the 256MB memory is the main cause of the lag. I make the flash with 1GB of mem. Thanks for the heads up. ^_^ I glad the quality fixed things a bit.

OK, I'm happy. I'm very happy. I didn't bother examining everything with a fine toothed comb becuase you said you've had enough, so I just watched it the once and I see that this excellant film is EVEN BETTER!
